Only Keep Pure Breed
All our cows belong to the following breeds:
Some say Gomata forms the basis of bharatiya civilisation, we think, gomata IS bharatiya civilisation. Throughout the Veda-s, there’re hundreds of mantra-s sung by the Rshi-s, to venerate her, throughout the purana-s and other texts.
There’re are thousands of words dedicated to expressing gratitude to her and throughout the lived history of our civilisation, there’re uncountable sacrifices, of all kinds, made by our ancestors to make sure we continue receiving her blessings.

अ॒पोदे॒वीरुप॑ह्वये॒यत्र॒गावः॒ पिब॑न्तिनः।
सिन्धु॑भ्यः॒कर्त्वं॑ह॒विः॥
We invoke those waters which have been purified by being drank from, by the gomata-s, as such waters are fit for preparing oblations for the devata-s.
We have a thriving gaushāla at the gurukulam, currently has 50 govamsha-s: cows, calves, heifers, oxen, bulls.
Due to rapid commercialization of the dairy industry, the current state of pure breed desi cows is extremely troubling. Faulty policies and quest for increased milk production has led to farmers adopting foreign breeds of cow or buffaloes, and thus the number of pure breed Indian cows has declined to the extent of being endangered and some breeds even being totally lost, like the hundreds of veda shakha-s.
Thus, we have made a committment to only keep pure breed indian cows (bos indicus) and make sure they grow in numbers, each generation being healthier than the previous. All our cows belong to the following breeds:
- Haryanvi
- Tharparkar
- Sahiwal
- Rathi

अग्रतः सन्तु मे गावो गावो मे सन्तु पृष्ठतः।
गावो मे हृदये सन्तु गवां मध्ये वसाम्यहम्॥
Shri Brahmā in Skandapurāna says, “let there be cows before me, cows behind me, cows in my heart, I live with the cows”.
Needless to say, a brahmachari’s life is incomplete without the company of gomata. One attains immense punya by serving her and this punya then, bestows viveka.
Veda says,
पयसि हीदं सर्वंप्रतिष्ठितम्
All this world is established on milk.
Adi Shankaracharya, in his bhashya explains it thus:
“Prajapati created seven kinds of food and of them, he gave milk to the cows. How is this milk the base for everything? Because the whole world results from transformation of oblations of milk made during nitya agnihotram.”

OUR sankalpa
We have a committment to follow the best practices to ensure good health of all our cows and their calves. We never tie our cows with rope. Calves and heifers are fed mother’s milk for as long as the mother produces or the calves age out.
We have established a gosamvardhana kendra exclusively for breeding desi cows so that their quality and numbers improve. Our bulls have served to improve generations of cows owned by many farmers from villages near our goshala. The bulls are also kept like the cows, free to roam and with great love.
